A Brazilian bride and groom were delighted when the most special day of their lives was made memorable by the attendance of a friendly stray dog. The couple was so enchanted by the dog, who stayed for the entire wedding ceremony, that they made him part of their family.

Tamiris Muzini, a 34-year-old interior designer, and her husband Douglas Robert, a 36-year-old firefighter, were both born and raised in the Brazilian city of Vila Velha, Espírito Santo state. They met at a bar in 2016 and have been inseparable ever since.

“We got married on July 2, 2022, in a Catholic church in the city where we live,” Muzini told The Epoch Times. “Without a doubt, the most amazing part was meeting our Caramelo.”

Sharing more about their encounter with Caramelo, the stray dog that crashed their wedding, Muzini said that her husband first saw him lying on the church door on a carpet, interacting with the guests. Robert even made a video to show Muzini later, but Caramelo had already made it a point to introduce himself to her.

Muzini was “delighted” when she spotted the caramel-colored dog lying by her father’s feet, waiting to greet her as she stepped out of her car and entered the church. When the newlyweds left the church after exchanging vows, the sweet dog was waiting by the door to lavish them with love, having already won the hearts of the congregation.

“We couldn’t believe Caramelo was still there,” Muzini said. “We heard rumors that he lived by the square where the church is located, although he had never appeared in the church before. Nobody knew him.”

The day after the wedding, the couple returned to the church square to look for Caramelo. Muzini said, “He was part of our history, there was no way to ignore this fact ... we went crazy trying to find him.”

But they left without any success. In the meantime, heartwarming footage of Caramelo shared online by their wedding ceremonialist, Huandra Seibel, had gone viral, and wedding attendees also joined the puppy hunt.

The next day, on July 4, an attendee located the dog. The couple picked him up and took the 18-month-old mongrel straight to the veterinarian, who bandaged his injured leg and identified a scar on his belly, possibly from a makeshift leash. Muzini suspects Caramelo “could have lived with a homeless person.”

Today, Caramelo the wedding crasher has a happy, loving home with a couple who will provide for all of his needs.

“He is a child, full of energy and love to give. He loves to play, go for walks, and also be with us in bed or on the couch,” Muzini said, adding that Caramelo adores his canine sister, Bertô, and feline brother, Fumaça, while his feline sister, Milu, is “still getting used to him.”

As for people, “there is no one who does not fall in love,” Muzini said, telling the New York Post that the dog’s full name is Caramelo de Jesus, because “without a doubt, he was sent to us by God.”

Neither Muzini nor Robert knew their wedding day would expand their family. They have implored others to open their hearts and homes to any creature in distress.

Muzini told The Epoch Times, “Adoption is an act of love, and a love that will come back to you twice, so don’t ignore a helpless being that needs your help.”
