An impressive video of a helpful Rottweiler assisting his owner to cut down a tree branch in their backyard has gone viral, leaving netizens amazed.

Norman, who is 18 months old lives with Nicolle Bell and her husband, Allan, in their house in Sydney, Australia.

“We picked him up on May 8, 2021, when he was nine weeks old,” Nicolle, a bank manager told The Epoch Times. “After we lost our previous Rottweiler … Norman came into our family … and has brought much joy and comfort to us.”

On July 23, 2022, Nicolle was helping her husband trim down some branches from a tree that had been damaged due to the storms.

Norman who was playing in the yard at that time was eager to help. He grabbed onto the rope that Nicolle used to pull the branch down. Seeing this, Nicolle let go of the rope and decided to film the hilarious moment, completely unaware of what was going to unfold.

“He just started pulling on the rope because he loves playing tug of war with ropes,” Nicolle said. “He was just pulling, and then he let it off and readjusted himself and then just started pulling again.”

Using all his strength, Norman successfully pulled the branch down and then stepped aside when it fell into the backyard.

Nicolle said that he then ran with his tail wagging in excitement, to explain “I did it.” Both Nicolle and her husband were amazed.

“I thought when he started pulling … he’s gonna pull on it for a little while and he'll just let it go and probably wander off and do something else,” Nicolle said. “We were quite amazed that he kept doing it.”

As a reward for a job well done, Nicolle gave him some treats.

Allan posted the video of Norman on his Instagram account, writing: “Norman has found his calling.”

Needless to say, the video took the internet by storm, garnering millions of views.

“We were both just astounded at the fact that this video of our dog playing in the backyard went viral,” Nicolle said. “We absolutely still can’t believe it.”

Nicolle explained that it’s been an interesting experience to see Norman pull down a branch since they’ve never done something like this in their backyard before and he’s never been trained to do so.

Norman, who loves being out in the backyard, often follows Allan around when he’s mowing the lawn.

The curious dog also likes to stand and watch Alan whenever he fixes something in the shed or yard. Sometimes he helps to pick up chopped-up wood for the fireplace.

“It’s pretty much anything that you do, Norman will be there wanting to help,” Nicolle said.

Apart from being helpful, Norman also has an infectious personality and is very friendly and happy.  “Everybody loves Norman,” she said.

According to Nicolle, people usually have an opinion of Rottweilers and think that they’re big dogs that can be scary. However, Norman’s temperament is “just beautiful.”

He enjoys playing with humans more than with other dogs.
